a-means the pass & Dakh-is the country. Ladakh is the country visited by Huen Sang in 7^th century. Since then this particular part is having a turbulent history. Times and again Ladakh has been ruled over by different political powers. Ladakh itself  was a free country in the past. Ladakh, the country of Lamas, was not open to all. From 1974 it has invited all the tourists from every corner of the world. It has only two seasons – Summer (June to October) & Winter (November to May). The horse-shoe shaped city is well guarded by mountains & populated with 25000 human beings.
